About Carolyn
My Dad knew I was an artist long before I knew it myself. He saw my talent, even in my childhood, and encouraged me to use it.
It took me a lifetime to know this for myself. Sadly, Dad did not live to see me become the artist I was meant to be.
Today, each painting is both a journey, and a journal.
The journey is following my intuition. Finding a challenge, or a puzzle that needs to be solved. I experiment constantly with different subjects, new media, new techniques, combining spontaneity and control. Every day is an adventure into the unknown. Every destination is a surprise.
The journal is a daily record of my life, my travels, my interests. I observe the hidden beauty all around us. I look for ways to bring my hope, my optimism into the world. I share the healing power of nature.
Each painting is a gift from my heart. A gift, too, in honor of my Dad.
Every day, I find a chance to say, “Thank you.”

Bio
A nature lover since childhood, Carolyn Wilson’s mixed media collage paintings capture her feelings of awe and connection to nature, and express the energy and aliveness of flowers, trees and creatures she observes and encounters.
“These paintings dance between impressionism and realism, incorporating both in order to convey the energy and spirit of the natural world as I experience it. When painting, I am completely absorbed, get lost in the flow and totally tap into my intuition. It is a mystical, magical and meditative process”, says Wilson. “Each painting is made from hundreds if not thousands of torn pieces of tissue and rice papers. They are like puzzle pieces that somehow find their way to the right place as the painting evolves.”
An artist for over 20 years, Carolyn has participated in Sonoma County Art Trails Open Studios since 2014. Her collage paintings have been published in 2 books: The Encyclopedia of Watercolour Techniques by Hazel Harrison (UK, 2018) and The New Encyclopedia of Watercolor Techniques by Hazel Harrison (USA, 2010).
